The Trading Standards Office
has brought the following scam to our attention: A card is
posted through your door from a company called PDS (Parcel
Delivery Service) suggesting that they were unable to
deliver a parcel and that you need to contact them on 0906

DO NOT
call this number, as this is a mail scam originating from

details, then please contact: Royal Mail Fraud on 0207 239

Crime - Advice from the Police:
There have been recent burglaries in the Blackfen area in which the
burglars have used implements to open inside door handles via the
letterbox. Police advise you to lock your doors from the inside and
keep your keys safe and secure (but easily available in case needed
for exit in an emergency). High value vehicles parked on driveways
have been targeted and keys visible through letterboxes have been
"fished" off tables with hooks.
There have also been recent attempts at "Distraction" burglary,
where thieves gain access to a house on a pretext. In one such
attempt on 30th May the thief gained entry to the victim's house by
purporting to have been requested by a neighbour to cut back an
overhanging hedge. Please be on your guard and remeber that the
thieves can be very convincing.
Traffic News:
We have received preliminary information that major gas works in the
Blackfen area are likely to start in June and continue until October
which will affect at various dates the following locations -
Blackfen Road between the Greenwich Boundary and Chester Road,
Blackfen Road by the Girls School, Raeburn Road and adjacent side
roads, Wellington Avenue by the junction with Burnt Oak Lane.
8th May 2007
Blackfen Clutter Clearance Scheme.
The Council's contractors will be carrying out refurbishment
work to existing street furniture in Blackfen Road and Westwood Lane.
The work will involve removing and replacing damaged
railings, painting existing railings that are in good condition, replacing a
damaged bench, installing new bollards in central islands and renewing
litter bins and cycle racks.
The work is expected to start on 7th May.
Certificate of Lawfulness (Existing) for use of land
adjacent to 2 Wellington Avenue as a scrap metal yard.
The appeal will be decided at a public enquiry to be held at
10am, 30th May at the Conference Room, Wyncham House, 207, Longlands Road,
Sidcup.
Blackfen Parade Clean Up.
Saturday 16th June has been earmarked as "Clean up day" for
the alleyway at the rear of Blackfen Parade when it is hoped that local
residents and businesses will come along at 10.30am to lend a hand. Much
preliminary clearance has already been undertaken and is continuing by teams
provided under the "Community Payback Scheme". Further details will be
posted nearer the date.
